As every Minnesotan knows, our winters are cold and icy. Your Ford is designed to drive in any weather conditions, but preparatory winter maintenance can make your driving experience safer and less stressful. As your Ford dealer, we’d like to give you a few tips on Ford maintenance to enable your Ford to beat the winter cold.

Battery Check

Your battery is vulnerable to low temperatures, particularly if it’s more than three years old. The average battery life is three to five years before the chemicals that enable it to store electricity naturally break down. An older battery has a lower storage capacity, and since your starter requires more power at low temperatures, the battery may not have enough power to start your engine.

When you drive off the Ford dealership lot with a brand-new vehicle, it’s a great feeling. It’s not such a great feeling when you see that first scratch or swirl in the paint. Here’s some tips on how to keep your Ford looking showroom fresh.

From Your Ford Dealership: How to Keep Your Car Looking Great

Wash It!

OK, this one is a little obvious, but what might not be so obvious is that you need to be getting washes regularly: as much as once a week in winter. Washing doesn’t just make your car look good at the moment. A wash removes many contaminants that actually eat into the paint of your car and can damage it over time. This is even true of dirt and dust, but it’s especially true of road salt and chemicals, bird droppings, and the sap and leaves of trees.

If you wash it yourself, be sure to use a soap specifically made for cars. Other types of soap will be hard on the paint. If you take it to a car wash, get a touchless wash whenever possible and always get an undercarriage wash, especially in the winter.
