This is even true of dirt and dust, but it’s especially true of road salt and chemicals, bird droppings, and the sap and leaves of trees.
If you wash it yourself, be sure to use a soap specifically made for cars. Other types of soap will be hard on the paint. If you take it to a car wash, get a touchless wash whenever possible and always get an undercarriage wash, especially in the winter.
