The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD does things differently than traditional performance cars: it features a Ford Performance-developed V8, a lightweight carbon fiber body, and aerospace-grade cockpit materials. The earth-shattering coupe’s limited production numbers mean that only a few Minneapolis drivers will be able to own one.
Tremendous Power
In its engine bay, the Mustang GTD houses a 5.2L supercharged V8—the most powerful engine ever placed in a production Mustang. The powerplant kicks out an earsplitting 815 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque and is paired with an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission. The powertrain enables the coupe to reach a mind-boggling top speed of 202 mph.
Outstanding Maneuverability
A dry sump oil system, lightweight body, and semi-active suspension enable the Mustang GTD to dart through all 73 turns of the Nürburgring in under 7 minutes. The dry sump oil system ensures that the engine isn’t starved of oil during high G-force maneuvers, maintaining the Mustang GTD’s throttle response when accelerating out of corners. Meanwhile, the coupe’s body uses carbon fiber instead of aluminum, reducing curb weight and making steering more predictable.
The motorsport-grade semi-active suspension responds to changes in road or track surface conditions by adjusting the damping force. It also provides excellent lateral stiffness to minimize body roll during aggressive cornering. The exclusive dual-ride height feature enables drivers to improve track performance by reducing ground clearance on demand.
Aerodynamic Design
Every element of the Mustang GTD’s design serves a practical purpose. The dual hood vents, aggressive wide grille, and additional air intakes cool the firebreathing V8 engine, while the multi-purpose front fender vents reduce drag and direct airflow to cool the front brakes. The front splitter, underbody flaps, and active rear wing maximize downforce at high speeds. A special Drag Reduction System uses hydraulics to control the rear wing’s angle and front underbody flaps to balance downforce with aerodynamic efficiency.
Functional Cockpit
The cockpit prioritizes pure functionality over extravagance, aligning with the other performance-oriented attributes of the Mustang GTD. The clutter-free dashboard features a 12.4-inch digital gauge cluster and a 13.2-inch infotainment screen. The driver and front passenger sit in hand-stitched RECARO seats with GTD-specific decals. Materials sourced from retired F-22 fighter jets make up several components in the cockpit, including the rotary dial shifter, paddle shifters, and serial plate.
