AC isn’t something we think about in a Minnesota winter, but in summer you may need the cold air from your AC to cool you down. In these circumstances, your car AC not working can make even a short drive feel like a sauna. If you have an AC problem, your friendly Ford dealer will fix it for you. These are a few of the AC problems that we can repair.
Refrigerant Leak
Refrigerant is the gas used by your AC to chill the air. It’s pumped through the AC and cycles between gaseous and liquid states during the cooling process. Refrigerant operates under high pressure, and this means that a tiny leak in the system can rapidly lead to a loss of refrigerant. If your AC doesn’t have sufficient refrigerant, your AC can’t cool the air.
Under normal conditions, it is impossible to spot a refrigerant leak. It’s colorless and odorless and immediately evaporates in the air. Our technicians use UV dye to identify any leaks in the system. The dye is circulated through your AC, and our technicians monitor its progress using a special UV monitor. Once we identify the source of the leak, we will seal it for you.
Blocked Vents
Your AC takes air from the outside, removes the humidity, chills the air, and then pumps it into your cabin. The air movement depends on a vent system, from the air intake vent situated underneath your windshield to the air vents in your cabin. These vents can become blocked, which reduces or even prevents air from entering your cabin.
The air intake vent can become blocked by dirt, sand, or even leaves. If this happens, your AC won’t receive any air, and the cooling system won’t operate. The vents from the AC to your cabin can also become blocked by debris. If your AC provides little or no air, one or more blockages could be the problem. We can easily remove debris from the vents, and your AC should work correctly again.
Broken AC Clutch
The clutch is one of the most important parts of the AC system. It’s attached to the compressor, and the compressor controls the AC system. The clutch switches the compressor on and off several times during the cooling cycle. A clutch can become worn out or damaged, and this prevents the compressor from working.
You can always identify a failed AC clutch by listening for a slight click when the AC is working. This sound is made each time the compressor switches on and off. If you don’t hear a click, the clutch has broken. We can easily replace a damaged clutch to resolve this problem.
