After you buy your Ford Edge, the work is just beginning. It is important to keep your vehicle in top shape. A well-maintained vehicle reduces your fuel costs, and regular preventative maintenance helps you get the most out of your vehicle and avoid costly significant repairs in the future. Follow these four steps to keep your Ford Edge in top shape.

  1. Take Advantage of Your Ford Pass

The Ford Pass is vital to your vehicle’s health because it alerts you when your vehicle needs attention. Check your fluids from the palm of your hand so you know if you are low and need to add anything. You can also use the app to get your service alerts. It will even alert you if something needs professional attention under the hood.

  1. Check Your Tires

Checking your tires is essential to keep your Edge in top shape. Proper tire pressure helps increase your fuel economy while good treads are an important safety measure.  You can either buy or borrow a tire pressure gauge from a friend. Refer to your owner’s manual for the ideal pressure for your tires. Check it regularly, especially if you live in a climate with extreme temperature ranges.

Use a penny to check the treads on your tires. If you can see more than half of the coin, schedule an appointment to get your tires replaced. Not only do you need good treads to pass your state inspection, but the more tread you have, the more grip you have on the road.

  1. Check Your Oil

Whether you live in the city or the suburbs, it is easy to check your oil before leaving on your next adventure. All you need is a couple of napkins and an optional pair of gloves. The gloves are to protect your hands from burns on hot weather days. Open the hood, and make sure you prop it up so you can work without concern.

Once you open the hood, locate your engine oil. The top of the dipstick is labeled. Remove it, wipe it down, put it back in, and then check the level of your oil. If it is low, add some oil.

Make sure you change your oil regularly. You can either do this yourself or schedule an appointment. If you are doing the job yourself, make sure you check the manual for the type of oil you need.

  1. Make Sure You Use the Proper Type of Fuel

To keep your Ford Edge in top shape, it is important to use the right type of fuel in the vehicle. Regular unleaded fuel is okay to use because the engine compensates for it. However, if you are towing or planning to travel on different types of terrain, premium unleaded is the recommended choice. It helps the engine perform better under stressful conditions.

As with any maintenance, it is important to rely on professionals when the job is complicated. Not only does this keep you safe, but you know your vehicle is getting the proper attention it needs. Schedule appointments early, especially before long road trips.
