Improved both inside and out, the 2020 Escape ushers in the fourth generation of Ford’s top-selling crossover. Sitting lower to the ground and more car-like in appearance, the Detroit automaker is banking on its sedan and hatchback fans to gravitate toward the Escape as Ford discontinues all of its cars and hatchbacks for the 2020 model year. Stylish, versatile, and packed with extras, the 2020 Ford Escape is one of the most anticipated releases of the year.

More Interior Space

Although the 2020 Ford Escape has a lower clearance and shorter proportions, it’s actually roomier than its predecessor. The crossover still has seating for five, but with a longer and wider body, it has more legroom, shoulder room, and hip room than ever. Behind the rear seats, a 37.5-cubic foot storage area provides even more storage space, eclipsing the 2019 model by 3.5 cubic feet.

All trims of the 2020 Ford Escape also boast sliding rear seats that move on a 6-inch track. This allows easy access to the rear cargo area without opening the tailgate. For parents, this is a welcomed feature for cleaning, as well as rearranging kids and cargo.

New Powertrain Options

The 2020 Ford Escape gets two all-new engines, offering options for those who put a premium on either power or efficiency. The standard engine is a 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder. Although a three-cylinder engine may seem undersized, the turbo portion creates 180 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque that are comparable, if not better, than its competitors. The engine even has enough oomph to pull up to 2,000 pounds — good enough to tow a trailer, boat, or camper.

If you value speed and performance over efficiency, the 2020 Ford Escape has you covered. Unlike many of its competitors, it offers a second engine, much to the delight of gear heads everywhere. This turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder churns out a whopping 250 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque, adding five more ponies over last year’s model. Not only will you feel the added acceleration and overall speed, but the 2.0-liter variant also boasts 3,500 pounds of towing capacity.

Ford Co-Pilot360 Technology

Ford has been a leader in recent years with their advanced driver-assist safety suite known as Ford Co-Pilot360. Designed to keep a watchful eye on the road when you get distracted, Co-Pilot360 has features such as adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go and lane-centering; active park assist 2.0; a blind spot information system with rear cross-traffic alert; pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking; evasive steering assist; automatic high-beam headlamps; and more. With this system in place, you can take one less thing off your mind and enjoy the ride.

While Ford’s future hangs — at least in part — on the success of the Escape, few would disagree that the crossover lacks the features and amenities to flourish in its respective market segment. The only thing it’s probably missing is you behind the wheel. Schedule a test drive today to see what makes the Escape the car you’ll want to have in your driveway.
