The Ford Edge underwent a major refresh for 2019, which includes a revised styling, updated powertrains, and the addition of new entertainment and safety features. However, none of these updates are as exciting as the introduction of the ST model, the first performance-oriented SUV from Ford. Sporty Styling
Similar to other 2019 Ford Edge models, the ST features a clean, uncomplicated styling. This SUV is pleasing to the eye with its well-proportioned body, gently sloping roof, substantial pillars, and appropriately sized grille. It distinguishes itself from the regular models with a unique front fascia with a bigger mesh grille for improved cooling, larger side sills, special dual exhaust outlets, standard 20-inch wheels, and minimal chrome.
Invigorating Performance
The 2019 Ford Edge ST gets its power from a 2.7-liter EcoBoost turbocharged V-6 engine that cranks out 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque with 93-octane fuel. This engine sends power to all wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. The transmission has a Sport mode and gets lower ratios than the one in the regular models for enhanced acceleration.
The SUV can sprint to 60 mph from a standstill in just 5.9 seconds, which is quicker than most mainstream midsize SUVs. Despite having a lower final drive, it manages to deliver a fuel economy rating of 19/26 mpg (city/highway), thanks to its all-wheel-drive disconnect.
To provide a more thrilling driving experience, the Ford Edge ST features a specially tuned suspension system with mono-tube shocks, firmer springs, and a beefier front stabilizer bar, as well as a retuned electric steering assist and skid-management electronics. It also comes with an upgraded brake master cylinder and bigger brake rotors and calipers. For even stronger braking power, you can get the available performance brake package that includes better brake pads, special front rotors, red calipers, vented brake shields, 21-inch wheels, and Pirelli P Zero tires.
Comfortable and Well-Equipped Cabin
On the inside, the ST is almost identical to the other Edge models, offering ample room for five passengers and a maximum cargo capacity of 73.4 cubic feet. However, it features unique front seats with larger side bolsters for better lateral support while cornering. To keep you connected and entertained on the road, the SUV comes standard with Ford’s user-friendly Sync 3 infotainment system with an 8-inch touch-screen display, navigation, Wi-Fi hotspot, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa integration, and a 12-speaker B&O audio system.
Extensive Safety Features
The Ford Edge ST offers more standard safety features than most of its rivals. It comes with forward collision alert, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams, blind spot monitoring, lane-keeping assistance, and a backup camera. Optional features include an advanced adaptive cruise control system and evasive steering assistance.
